The section sun was founded in 1969 together with other section of the VVS, but we had to wait until 1976 to see the results being published systematically in "Heelal", the monthly magazine of the VVS. Since 1976, about 140 observers made more than 30 000 observations for the section
Activity
The section is composed of amateur astronomers who feel attracted to observing our sun. The section counts at this moment between 11 and 15 active observers, who send their observations every month to the section leader. The instruments used goes from 60mm refractors to 250mm reflectors. We observe only in white light and this on an average of 320 days a year. Some members send their observations directly to the SIDC (Solar Index Data Center) in Brussels.
Observation Program
The principal part of the observation program is the determination of the Wolf number. There are also some members who determine the Beck number and the Classification Value. One members also determines the intersolindex and the Pettis Value. Some members also do position determination of sunspots; some of them do that by using drawings they made by projection of the solar image.
Publications
Observations are published in the "Nieuwsbrief voor zonnewaarnemers" (Newsletter for solar observers), where the daily observations of all section members are published, together with news and observations of international groups our section cooporates and exchanges observations with.
